Bells

The tittering of little bells
Is what she longed to hear
That signaled that the longed for hope
Would soon be drawing near
“Ting-ting” the silver bells sang
A song about her beau
Where her heart was safe
Where her heart did glow

They met in the springtime
When life was warm and bright
Before the storms came to her fields
Destroying all with blight
That springtime came with life and joy
And shyness too, you see,
Because she was afraid to say
Her truth and be set free
Instead she hid behind the walls
Of her garden in the sun
Waiting there for him to come
And finish what they’d begun
But nothing there did flourish
And he was never seen
Before catastrophe set in
And death came on the scene

The summer came and brought with it
A hell of heat filled hate
All the sweet soft buds from spring
Wilted fast and straight
At first she tried to save them
Protect them from the scourge
But the plants all seemed to die
The garden was deterged

When autumn time came quietly
And death became the show
She wept inside her garden
Where nothing more would grow
Til suddenly a familiar song
Of bells and hope did ring
And in the little garden
Her heart began to sing
As days grew short, dark grew long
Winter’s coming soon
Reminding her that in the night
Still shown a bright white moon

“Ting-ting” wintertime is short
And spring will follow then
The night won’t last forever
Hope will live again
