“Sigh no more, ladies, sigh no more” ⁂ classics

There’s something deliciously intoxicating about the Renaissance and the writers there who tell in such beautiful stories and songs of love…

Shakespeare is probably one of if not the best known of the poets of love and tragedy. I feel as though he was the original master of the rom-com and one of those masterpieces was (my personal favorite) Much Ado About Nothing. I could go on at length at the caustic wititudes and sarcasm, the eloquent insults, the love affair between Beatrice and Benedict born out of mutual disdain and promises made by Beatrice to eat all of the men Benedict killed in battle, but those can wait for another day.

Tonight I bring to you the truest song that ever was written for women about men. Prove me wrong if you can but know that every one can master a grief but he that has it for there was never yet philosopher that could endure the toothache patiently.

Oh that I were a man…

Song: “Sigh no more, ladies, sigh no more”

By William Shakespeare

Sigh no more, ladies, sigh no more.
    Men were deceivers ever,
One foot in sea, and one on shore,
    To one thing constant never.
Then sigh not so, but let them go,
And be you blithe and bonny,
Converting all your sounds of woe
    Into hey nonny, nonny.

Sing no more ditties, sing no more
Of dumps so dull and heavy.
The fraud of men was ever so
    Since summer first was leafy.
Then sigh not so, but let them go,
And be you blithe and bonny,
Converting all your sounds of woe
    Into hey, nonny, nonny.
